Possible Contest, Feedback Please...
Hello,
First off I would liek to say that I did get permission from Robson before posting this...
I am interested in running a contest, but I need to see how many people would be interested in participating first. The contest will be for a fully coded website layout, easy enough, right?
The problem I have is MOST designers specialize in technical/sleek designs, when for this I need a grungy, haggard design with rough edges and dark colors.
The design will be for a World War II information site with forum and image gallery. The theme of the site will be a war town city during WWII. I.E. The site should look like major cities, such as Berlin and Stalingrad after heavy bombing. Examples would be buldings w/ holes, blown up tanks, dustry streets and smoldering rubble.
PLEASE POST HERE if you would be interested in such a contest, I am hoping there will be enough people interested so I can runt he contest here instead of yaxay where I have run my last 2 contest.
Nick

I would enter, but i do not code. I can make you a grungy layout but i will not be able to code. Or so i think. It depends on the ammount of prize money, if its good enough i might code it.

Fully coded website layout...depends....
Dang, you had me at Grungy war scenes and lost me when you put the words "fully coded website layout" and "easy" together.
The word "easy" has been stricken from my office, and clients sign an agreement never to assume such or speak the word.
...but I digress...
Fully coded meaning the frontpage only tables?
Fully coded meaning 2, 3, 4 clicks deep?
Fully coded meaning CSS function behind the scene yielding a masterpage event?
I'd do the artwork for sure, in 3D, and I'd slice it according to best practices and write the HTML for the table placement. What's the point of the code?
And as Doom89 said, what's in it for the contestants?

By fully coded I mean the front page, coded in XHTML and CSS. No subpages or anything like that, no content, just so it can be posted as a working website with no content.
I have no yet decided on a prize as I'm not sure if I will be posting here or elsewhere - hence my getting feedback from you guys(I hesistate becuase this is a smaller forum). But you can expect the prize to be around 200-250$ for a coded finished product.

NickRac, I will speak to a few of the members here regarding your contest and see if they're interested in taking part. I'd definitly love to host your contest and I think the quality of the end product would be to a high standard

At yaxay we have allowed a designer and coder to split the contest prize between them (actual percentages could be agreed by both parties) in some of our past contests which required both design and coding. Just an idea which might be worth allowing over here since I know talkfreelance has amazing designers, great coders but not a huge percentage of either can do both (if you understand the logic of that sentance).

Yes, of course the contest could be split into two if NickRac doesn't mind
You could hold a contest initially for the design for $200 and then hire a coder for the remaining of the prize money.

Yeah I was actually going to suggest the same thing. I would be willing to team up with a designer on this one, becuase I don't do grunge.

That sounds more logical.
