Web design and programming?
Is it possible to be a web programmer or/and coder (whatever) without being a web designer? I am not good in designing things but website coding and programming seem to be doable for me.

All I do is coding and I'm doing fine. None of the serious programmers I know can design at all. Just subcontract designers and you will be fine.

When I started just coding and had no design experience, I just messed around with color based layouts when I needed one, but it was never needed to know design.

That's good news, thanks for sharing. So, I think it is safe to assume that someone can be a web designer without being a coder? What is more demanded in the market today then, a designer or a coder?

it's even. it depends on your skill set and how you market it. small places want a jack of all trades person because it'll keep costs down and they generally aren't picky on what you give them. something on an enterprise scale will want specialists - and it's sometimes a 50:50 toss up between being brought in as an inhouse operator or getting a nice ongoing contract.
again, whether it's for designing or programming is all relative to the business and what you can do.

i think as one of the member suggested just delegate the work of designing to someone else..that shall help..may good coders are not good designers...nothing to feel negative about

It's possible to a web programmer or a web designer only, but I am trying to learn more about web programming. I think it can help make a person a better designer.

There is demand for both. If design doesn't come easy to you it is probably unwise to start going towards that.
I personally prefer to be a specialist, generally speaking they make more money down the road. The way I've always seen it is that if you are a jack of all trades, you are a master of none.

I completely agree. I've only come across 1 or 2 people that can do both well, and I've been designing sites for a long time. I like to focus on what I'm good at, and hire out what I'm not good at. That way, my clients get the best results.

I agree with you about being a specialist rather than a generalist. If I were buying a laptop, I would go to a reputable computer store instead of a super mall where you can find everything including kitchen sinks there.
