unless you're displaying informative / tablature results, you don't use a table.
not saying you're doing this, but i work with print people think this way, and it's mind blowing how many people still think with the mentality of "when do i not use a table?" (implying this is the default/goto mechanism) instead of "when do i use one?".

Tables have come and gone. Years back tables were used for everything it seemed.. Now I highly stay away from them expect for when (as derek mentioned) I need to display data. To code a entire website I use DIVS. To me I find DIV's are a lot less confusing then tables.
I am shocked to read this question. You SHOULD use div only design for YEARS. Tables are OK for displaying tabular data, but the layout should be div only. And it's been a 'standard' for years
