Someone please tell me how I can learn to design good site layouts with photoshop. I know HOW it's done, the slicing and html and etc. I simply want to learn to do the artistic side of it.

Hello,
Honestly it is really just trial and error, just look and get a feel for what you want to do, and check out other sites to get good feel on color cordnations and stuff, but really it is just trial and error, and a good knowledge of what type of site you are trying to create, as to what the normal look and feel of that type of site is.

Thanks. I assumed someone would say that. I only wish there was an easier way to learn this than trial and error.

Start with the big picture and build on that. Ask yourself:
What's the main idea?
What represents better that idea?
What colors represent that idea?
Make it so that there is harmony in the final product.

Start by learning the latest trends, techniques used in modern web design. The do's and don't of web design, usability. Then learn from the best web designers, try a lot of tutorials related to the topic which you may want to learn and practice a lot, try looking for small projects, building your portfolio would be a lot fun and for your own interest.
Plus it takes a lot of passion and effort, if you really like what you do, you'll get good at it sooner or later.
Good luck!

I suggest specializing in a certain style. For example, get very good at interface designs that way more people will recognize you and you will draw a lot of attention from a specific crowd.

I think you are asking how to be creative? I don't think that is something that can be told, which is why there are many different styles that are appealing.
If you are just trying to get familiar with Photoshop, maybe try replicating an existing site as far as design to get used to how it works.
